End Of The Australian Dominance???
The recent India-Australia test at Adelaide was a dissappointment as one more feather falls off the Aussie cap.Yes!Adam Gilchrist retires. The fifth retirement shock that cricket Australia has faced in the past one year or so.After the retirement of greats of the likes of Shane Warne,Glenn McGrath,Damien Martyn and Justin Langer,it was time for Adam Gilchrist to follow the footsteps of his seniors or colleagues.
The Aussies have played only six tests without the likes of those retired greats.Out of these, they have managed a win in four of them-that also includes the Sydney test. The second test against Sri Lanka was a last gasp victory for them-thanks to Kumara Sangakkara's 192 who held the hopes of a possible Sri Lankan win.
Then comes the lost test against India in Perth followed by a drawn test at Adelaide.Well...with the likes of fellow greats like Matthew Hayden(36),Ricky Ponting(33),Andrew Symonds(32),Brett Lee(31) and Mike Hussey(32) all in their thirties, their service to Cricket Australia is limited.Though the Aussies have a match winning bowlers in Shaun Tait(24),Mitchell Jhonson(26),what about their batting???
The only likely batsman with a slightly long career is Michael Clarke(26) and a fairly decent wicket keeping in Bradd Haddin(30).
One has to look at the decline of the cricketing era that was once dominated by the West Indies team of the batting calibre of Viv Richards,Clive lloyd,Greenidge,Haynes,Kalicharan who could evoke fear in world class opposition bowlers like kapil dev,Jeff Thompson,Richard Hadlee so on..
And fast bowlers like Andy Roberts,Joel Garner,Michel Holding,Patty Patterson,Malcolm Marshall etc..Then came the 90's era fast bowlers viz..Ambrose,Walsh and Bishop who made decent progress. But with their retirement, the West Indies' cricket is all but lost.
With the retirement of Australian greats the situation can be predicted to be the same for them too.Well lets hope that the Australian cricket dosen't go the West Indies way..Else let it go??What Say guys!!!
